The Boundless train is on its maiden voyage across the country. When first-class passenger Will Everett gets the key to a train car containing priceless treasures, he becomes the target of sinister figures from his past. To survive, Will joins a travelling circus, helped by ringmaster leader Mr. Dorian, and Maren, a girl his age and an expert escape artist.
I first became aware of author, Kenneth Oppel in 8th grade from his book Airborn (I'll definitely be writing about that some day). After exploring some of his other books I eventually stumbled on the The Boundless.
I found this book fun for a few reasons. First, it fits into the Victorian Era with a little bit of steampunk thrown in. Second, it feels kind of like the movie Home Alone, except on a train. Lastly, I really enjoyed this book because while the element of the traveling circus seems kind of random and crazy it is done just right.
I'll note that I read this book many years ago (8th grade summer break and I'm a sophomore in college when writing this), so its definitely scaled towards a simpler reading level. That said even today I still enjoy this book a lot.
Here's the Goodreads profile on the book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17846771-the-boundless
Thanks so much for reading, I hope you get the chance to enjoy the Boundless or some other book.
Yours in reading,
Logan
